Why Did I receieve an IRS CP504 Notice

The IRS Collections Dept sends CP504 Notice when there is a balance due in collections with the IRS, and you have not paid the tax due.

The IRS CP504 Notice is sent by IRS through Certifed Mail by USPS. The IRS CP504 Letter is the IRS collections department advising of the Intent to levy against your income, assets or property. The IRS CP504 notice is sent by the IRS when there is a balance due to the IRS, is unpaid, and is in IRS collections.

The IRS CP504 Letter requests payment of the entire balance immediately. The Letter is a warning of the actions that the IRS can take. Which Includes, Wage Garnishments, Bank Levy, Self-employed Commission garnishment, Asset Seizure, and Passport revocation.

What does the IRS CP504 “Intent to Levy” mean?

The IRS has to send you the CP504 notice by law to give you legal warnings of collection action if you do not pay the tax due. The IRS CP504 Notice arrives systematically after the IRS CP501 & CP503 Notices have been sent.

The IRS CP504 only gives you a final warning you that a Levy might occur in the future, however, it is not a certain action the IRS will take. The IRS needs to give additional warning to you, as this is your Due Process for any government action against you.

What happens if I don’t pay by the IRS CP504 Deadline?

The IRS final warning will have expired, and they now have to send you IRS Letter LT11 or 1058 to offically warn you that the IRS collections will commence.

The IRS LT11 or IRS Letter 1058 now gives the IRS to begin colletions such as Issue Levies, File Federal Tax Liens & Revoke your passport.

The IRS Collection Actions after the IRS LT11 Notice or Letter 1058
