Key IRS Tax Deadlines to Keep in Mind For tax year 2024
January 15, 2025
Estimated Tax Payments: Make your final estimated tax payment for the 2024 tax year using Form 1040-ES if you haven’t already paid your income taxes through withholding.
January 31, 2025
Forms W-2 and 1099-NEC: Employers must send out W-2 forms to employees and 1099-NEC forms to independent contractors for the 2024 tax year.
March 15, 2025
S Corporations and Partnerships: File calendar-year S corporation returns (Form 1120-S) and partnership returns (Form 1065). If you need an extension, file Form 7004 to request an additional 6 months.
April 15, 2025
Individual Tax Returns: File your 2024 Form 1040 or 1040-SR and pay any taxes owed. You can request a 6-month extension using Form 4868, but any taxes due must still be paid by this date to avoid penalties.
First Quarter Estimated Tax Payments: If you're self-employed or otherwise paying estimated taxes, the first installment for 2025 is due.
June 17, 2025
Second Quarter Estimated Tax Payments: The second installment for 2025 is due for those paying estimated taxes.
September 16, 2025
Third Quarter Estimated Tax Payments: The third installment for 2025 is due for those paying estimated taxes.
October 15, 2025
Extended Individual Tax Returns: If you filed Form 4868 for an extension, this is your last day to file your 2024 tax return.
